Quick answer

An RV rental in Canada has four cost layers. None are hidden once you know the structure — here is all of it.

01

Nightly rate

Changes weekly under flex pricing — book early, lock low.

02

Kits & fees

One-time add-ons: kitchen, linen, drivers, route fees.

03

Kilometres

100 km/night free; pre-buy more, cheaper than overage.

04

Campgrounds + fuel + tax

Per-night sites, pump fuel, and sales tax on top.

The Base Rate

What’s already included in the nightly rate?

Every CanaDream nightly rate already includes 100 km per night, $5 million liability + collision insurance, and the Preparation Fee.

IncludedDetail
100 km per nightExtra km billed at drop-off if not pre-purchased
$5M liability + collision insuranceDeductibles apply (minimum $1,000)
Preparation FeeFirst propane, fresh water, toilet chemicals (5 per booking), cleaning supplies

Many renters assume insurance costs extra — it’s already in the base rate.

Flex Pricing

How is the nightly rate set, and when is it cheapest?

CanaDream recalculates nightly rates every Monday based on remaining availability — the earlier you book, the lower your rate.

The rate for any trip is determined by your pickup date × the number of nights. As inventory for a date fills up, the price for that date rises; when you book, your rate locks and won’t change afterward. Two fixed rules also apply: the minimum rental is 7 nights, and all drivers must be 21 or older.

This is why we never publish a static nightly rate — any fixed number would be wrong most weeks. We confirm your live rate the day you book.

Official 2026 Fees

What extra fees should I expect? (CanaDream official 2026)

The everyday add-ons are the Kitchen Kit at $120 per booking and the Linen Kit at $85 per person; the largest are route-driven, like the One-Way Fee at $1,100 on most routes.

Fee2026 price
Kitchen Kit$120 per booking
Linen Kit$85 per person
Additional driver$5 per night
US Travel Fee$100
Northern Surcharge$690
One-Way Fee (most routes)$1,100
One-Way Fee (Calgary/Edmonton → Vancouver)$1,550
Sunday Pickup (Oct 1–Apr 30)$435
Security deposit (refundable, held at pickup)$1,750

Mileage

How do kilometres work — and what does going over cost?

Your booking includes 100 km per night; if you’ll drive more, pre-purchasing is always cheaper than paying at drop-off.

Option2026 price
Included100 km per night
Upgrade to 175 km or 250 km per nightPriced per night on the current pricing sheet
500 km packageApprox. $175–$200 (derived from CanaDream’s published promotion math; confirm exact price at booking)
Unlimited kilometres$1,625 for up to 21 nights; $50 per extra night
Going over without a packageBilled at CanaDream’s current per-km rate at drop-off — always higher than pre-purchasing

Rule of thumb: a Calgary–Banff–Jasper loop runs roughly 1,000–1,200 km over 7 nights — the included 700 km won’t cover it, so plan one 500 km package or an upgrade.

What do campgrounds add per night?

Banff frontcountry campsites cost $34–$47.25 per night in 2026, depending on services.

Site type2026 price / night
Unserviced site$34
Electrical site$40
Full hookup (water / sewer / electric, e.g. Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court)$47.25

Fuel

How much should I budget for fuel?

Fuel for a 7-night Rockies loop typically lands in the few-hundred-dollar range — here’s the math to estimate yours.

A typical Class C motorhome uses roughly 25 litres per 100 km. So your fuel estimate is:

trip km  ÷  100  ×  ~25 L  ×  current pump price per litre

Worked example for a 1,100 km loop (estimate — pump prices change): 1,100 ÷ 100 = 11 × 25 L = 275 litres. Multiply by the day’s pump price — at, say, $1.50/L that’s about $413; at $1.70/L, about $468. Check the current Alberta pump price the week you travel for your own figure.

Plan For These

Which costs catch people off guard?

Three costs surprise first-time renters most: sales tax added on top of everything, the $1,750 deposit held at pickup, and one-way fees when pickup and drop-off differ.

01

Tax is added on top of everything.

Sales tax is calculated on the gross rental: 5% in Calgary, 12% Vancouver, 13% Toronto, 14.975% Montreal, 15% Halifax. A $3,000 booking in Calgary becomes $3,150 at checkout.

02

A $1,750 deposit is held at pickup.

The security deposit is refundable, but your credit card needs the room for it on pickup day.

03

Changing cities costs $1,100+.

The one-way fee applies the moment pickup and drop-off differ — $1,550 on the Calgary/Edmonton → Vancouver corridor.

[OPERATOR TO WRITE — real experience only] The cost mistake we correct most often for Chinese-speaking clients is forgetting that tax is added on top. Replace this paragraph with your own wording, keeping only what’s true.

[OPERATOR TO WRITE — real experience only] Second most common: not pre-buying kilometres before a Banff–Jasper loop. Rewrite from your real quoting experience.

[OPERATOR TO WRITE — real experience only] Third: underestimating the one-way fee on Calgary-in / Vancouver-out trips. Rewrite in your own voice.
