Quick Answer

Driving a 30-footer? Skip Two Jack Lakeside and Johnston Canyon (27 ft max, strictly enforced). Wabasso is closed for 2026 and Wapiti is reduced. Big-rig bets: Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court (Banff’s only full hookups), Whistlers in Jasper, or Silverhorn Creek (70 ft) as a backup.

Will your RV fit?

Set your total length — we’ll highlight every campground that fits.

Banff RV campgrounds

Match your total length to the hard caps below before you reserve.

The only full-hookup campground in Banff — where we send every large rig. Wide pull-throughs.

Lake Louise Hard-Sided

Open year-round. Hard-sided RVs only due to grizzly activity — soft-sided campervans aren’t permitted.

ElectricalYear-round

Open year-round — one of the few winter options near the town of Banff.

Mosquito Creek

35ft10 m max
UnservicedFirst-come

First-come, first-served — no reservation needed.

Two Jack Lakeside

27ft8.2 m max
UnservicedLakeside

Stunning lakeside, but a hard cap — our 30-ft Midi clients can’t book here. No dump station.

Johnston Canyon

27ft8.2 m max
UnservicedStrictly enforced

Tight loop roads; Parks Canada enforces the 27-ft cap at the kiosk. A 30-footer will be turned away.

Two Jack Main

24ft7.3 m max
UnservicedDump station

Not the same as Lakeside — Main caps at 24 ft but has a dump station.

Lake Louise Soft-Sided

24ft7 m max
UnservicedTents & vans

The soft-sided / campervan section near Lake Louise.

Castle Mountain

Closed

Closed until further notice — do not plan a stay here.

Jasper National Park

Jasper RV campgrounds

Inventory is heavily modified for 2026 as Jasper recovers from the 2024 wildfire — read the closure notes first.

Whistlers

50ft+15+ m max
Full hookupsLargestReservable

The primary hub and Jasper’s largest — fully modernized, wide pull-throughs, big dump station. Your safest base for 2026.

Wapiti

Reduced 2026
35ft10.5 m max
Power-onlyUnserviced

Partial capacity after the 2024 wildfire — fewer sites, so book earlier than usual.

Wabasso

Closed 2026

Closed for the entire 2026 season. Do not plan a Wabasso stay this year.

Whirlpool Group

Closed 2026

Group campground closed for the 2026 season.

The Icefields Parkway

Don’t forget the drive between

The 3-hour stretch between Banff and Jasper goes off-grid. These sites are first-come or self-registration — no hookups.

Silverhorn Creek

70ft20 m max
Unserviced

Essentially a large gravel lot — the best emergency backup for a big Class C without a reservation.

Wilcox Creek

35ft10.5 m max
UnservicedFirst-come

Near the Columbia Icefield — ideal for early-morning glacier access.

Waterfowl Lakes

27ft8 m max
UnservicedFirst-come

First-come, first-served, roughly midway on the Parkway.

▲ What changed for 2026

  • Banff reservations postponed to Feb 12, 2026 (8 am MT) — the January 23 launch for Banff, Lake Louise & Icefields Parkway frontcountry was delayed after technical issues. Ignore any guide still showing the old date. (Jasper launched Jan 27, 2026.)
  • Wabasso (Jasper) — closed for the entire 2026 season.
  • Wapiti (Jasper) — reduced capacity following the 2024 wildfire; fewer sites, so book earlier.
  • Whirlpool Group (Jasper) — closed for 2026.
  • Castle Mountain (Banff) — closed until further notice.
  • Canada Strong Pass — free park admission and 25% off camping with Parks Canada from June 19 to September 7, 2026.

Plan Ahead

Booking window & last-minute strategy

It’s already summer 2026 — this season’s launch has passed, so here’s how to get a site now, and how to prep for 2027.

Late January
Season launch (for 2027)
Parks Canada opens the whole season at once — there is no rolling 90-day window, so the best sites vanish within minutes. Expect the 2027 launch around Jan 25–30.
3–4 days out
Cancellation strategy (this summer)
Missed launch day? Cancelled sites are released back immediately — the highest frequency appears roughly 3–4 days before arrival, often right around 8:00 am MT.
Lead time
How early to book
Tunnel Mountain full hookups in July–August must be booked in January. Unserviced sites at Village I can sometimes be pieced together with 2–3 weeks’ notice.

From our trip-planning desk

Measure your total length, not just the coach. A 30-ft motorhome with a bike rack and two bikes off the back can push past a 27-ft cap in practice — campgrounds measure the whole footprint. We add up coach, racks and anything towed before we ever check a length limit.

Full hookups are scarce, and most renters assume they’re common. There is exactly one full-hookup campground in Banff (Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court) and one in Jasper (Whistlers). When a client books a 30-ft+ rig, we steer them to those loops — or to Silverhorn Creek (70 ft) as the big-rig backup — then confirm the exact site length on the live Parks Canada listing the week of booking.

Heads up on Protection Mountain: Parks Canada’s own listing is internally inconsistent (the description says up to 35 ft while the rules box says under 75 ft). We always plan to the conservative 35 ft so a site actually fits — never the optimistic number.

Common Questions

RV campground FAQ

What is the maximum RV length at Two Jack Lakeside?

Two Jack Lakeside has a hard maximum of 27 feet. Motorhomes longer than 27 ft — including our 30-ft Midi clients — cannot book here.

Is Wabasso Campground open in 2026?

No — Wabasso Campground in Jasper National Park is closed for the entire 2026 season.

Which Banff campgrounds fit a 30-foot motorhome?

Two Jack Lakeside and Johnston Canyon both cap at 27 ft, so a 30-footer won’t fit — and the limit is strictly enforced at the kiosk. For larger rigs, book Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court or Lake Louise Hard-Sided (both 50 ft), Tunnel Mountain Village II (35 ft), or Silverhorn Creek (70 ft) as a first-come backup.

When should I book Jasper campgrounds for summer?

Book the moment the season opens in late January — and earlier than usual, because Wapiti is reduced and Wabasso is closed, so there are fewer Jasper sites. Missed it? Cancelled sites reappear about 3–4 days before arrival, often around 8 am MT. Whistlers, Jasper’s largest, is the safest base.

Does Panda Scenery help with campground planning?
